Edinburgh Festival Fringe. C Electric
Another show where the concept exceeds the result. A Texas oil millionaire plans to use a strap-on “nucular” bomb to destroy LA, using the ensuing Yeehad (Texan holy war) to push up the price of his oil. The music is poor, the lyrics weak with an uneven script which shocks with casual swearing or obtrusive sexual references. There is a procession of solo songs in which the characters introduce themselves, but nothing else much happens. The direction is unexciting as characters often stand at the back to listen to the next. But there are gems hidden within it. The unaccompanied quintet is excellent and shows what this company could have done with a better script.
