Tom Fletcher's "The Creakers" has reached the stage as a musical with music by Tom and an adaptation by Miranda Larson. This show is aimed fairly and squarely at those who love the books, young and old, and makes a great family outing. The town of Whiffington has a rubbish problem and the adults decide to sort it by sending it out to be dumped at sea. But the Creakers, the creatures who live under your bed, need the rubbish to survive and, finding it gone, they decide to take all the adults hostage. A town without adults may seem fun but it soon starts to fall apart. Lucy, whose Dad was really into recycling rubbish, decides to take on the Creakers and, with the help of her friends.
Although it seemed a bit long for young viewers, the audience was engaged and enthusiastic throughout. For me, the production lacked consistent pace and the recylcing sermon near the end was a bit out of place but overall the show had a good feeling.
