Ok, so by the time you read this the show may be over, but I hope not, I hope you get/got to see it. We all know the story (though I tend to get Holiday Inn and White Christmas terribly confused in my head) and have seen the film, this is a good show, pretty close to the version you'll remember and with all the great songs.
A lot of people have a downer on amateur dramatics, this is exactly the sort of production that they should see as it will turn them around in an instant - especially if they have seen some of the weak professional tours that have graced our stages over the past year. A full house, a packed stage and a lot of "umph" were the key points to me. Some beautiful voices, a real understanding of the story they were conveying and tight direction made for a great evening. Yes there were some (few) messy bits, but there are in most shows and the downside of most amateur productions is that they simply do not get time to "bed in" properly - no previews for amateurs, its all performance. The real upside is the sheer enthusiasm brought to the stage by people who do it for love alone.
Seeing the Hippodrome stage packed with 40 dancers in full costume and choreography is a delight that would break the bank of a professional production but I'm really gald I saw it. Congratualtions to BLOC on a really greaat evening ...
