War of the Worlds - Immersive

5
The fabulous immersive adventure in London.
By Robert Iles - 26th Jun 2019

Drop whatever you are doing. Drop it. Drop it now. Why? Well, you have to go and book tickets to this adventure! Really.

Here at UKTW we have always been great fans of War of the Worlds; listening to it since it came out, regularly, seeing the films and shows, reading the book and crying everytime Thunderchild doesn't make it. Yep, we could be considered fans, the music, the story, the images. All fabulous. So actually, although the moment it was announced we wanted to go to this new production we approached it with a bit of trepidation - don't mess with what works so well.

So ...

Well, from the moment you enter this fabulous steam punk world, sip a cocktail and sit under a martian tripod you know that all is going to be just fine! More than that, the evening is going to be effing fabulous. A combination of projection styles, walk-throughs, character actors and VR takes you on a journey that has all the feel, fun and fear of the original. Enjoy a red weed cocktail in the interval at the red weed bar (o.m.g. a bar that has Breton cider on tap!) and then on to the end. Yep, still cry when Thunderchild dies, some even felt genuinely sea sick!

I have to be honest, this ticked every box for me and had me grinning from ear to ear the whole way around - I would happily have come out and simply walked straight back in at the start again ...

Not only is this a great show but the practicailites are well worked outl, from the lockers to the menu - there are no gaps in the planning to make sure that your evening is wonderful. The production is in groups of 12, take friends or enjoy meeting strangers, either way it is a great couple of hours.

Congratulations to the whole team and to the actors who make it so personal and effective ...

Give yourself a real treat down in Leadenhall ;-)
