Brilliant .... Just Brilliant!
Want more? Ok, well, this is the type of family show I love; fun, inventive, full of pace and humour, great new songs and, well, just an evening of real theatre. The Bristol Old Vic was packed and the children completely engrossed, not surprising really as so were the adults. This is a magical retelling of Hand Christian Anderson's tale of love and far better than the Disney misrepresentation. The small team of actors play a range of parts (and instruments) to being the story to life and manage to make it look like Mermaids really do swim .. in fact, speaking as a diver, the "underwater" work was really excellent with a real sense of the freedom you get.
Designs are fabulous, love the Sea Witch's throne, and the acting is exemplary from the whole team but especially from Katie Moore, the Little Mermaid herself, who puts in an amazing amoutnt of work and talent to make her fairy tale creature credible. Excellent work also from the Sea Witch and her hench-fish, lovely comedy timing.
This is a great show, definitely worth the outing ... loved it!
