Not at all what I expected. This is a moving, even disturbing, play (with music) about a mutually co-dependent (ex-)couple. He is a serious depressive who feels the need to isolate and wants to commit suicide, she is an agoraphobic with major panic attack issues. Sounds fun? Actually, this is told with humour, great music and really committed acting - both characters, despite the slightly oddball presentation, were totally credible - you believed in them, and cared about them. Because of this, the play works, if we did not care then we would not follow the scatty story, but it is that lack of structure that gives it its reality. Not sure I felt better by the end but I did feel I had seen a small glimpse inside the head of those who wake up every day feeling depressed before the day has had a chance to show its real colours. They named a couple of charities they were dealing with at the end but perhaps we need something more concrete to take away so that, as the story continues to seep in, we have somewhere to go to learn more, or somewhere to send those we love but struggle.
