Well what a high energy, fun, show that is - I have no idea how Jake Sharp Keeps up that level of performance every night, extraordinary! However, what is even more extraordinary is the talent of the your performers. From the three casts of children who perform the show the one we saw was ridiculously good and I have no doubt the other casts are equally fabulous. I believe that our Zack was only 10 but he strummed his axe like a pro!
Ok, so the story is a bit light and the playing a bit tongue in cheek but it hits all the right notes - never claiming to be anything other than it is and doing its own thing with confidence and style - you cannot help but be carried along by the sheer enthusiasm and commitment from the entire cast. The young audience absolutely loved it. So did I.
With the large cast, band (backing the tracks where the kids are not performing) and large scale sets the production could be weighed down but it turns out to be incedibly fleet of foot. Normally, full set changes for short scenes suck the life out of a production but not so here where they are choreographed with precision.
Goodness me this was fun, and if these young performers stick with their craft then the future of musical theatre is indeed secure. More importantly, this is a show to engage and enthuse a young audience and hopefully spark a love of theatre that they will carry forward. All strength to them all ...
