This production by The Wardrobe Ensemble is a fun-filled riotous re-telling of the familiar tale of Robin Hood’s adventures and rivalry with the Sheriff of Nottingham. A young energetic cast brings the story to life with honed characterisation and enjoyable story telling. As the Vic’s main family show this Christmas it will certainly appeal to the whole family.
Shameless echoes of Ocean’s Eleven with a sprinkle of Mission Impossible and of course some time travel help this relatively small cast fill the stage with action, heroism, dancing, singing and of course hilarious moments of zany comedy.
JJ (Dorian Simpson) is the bookish, friendless boy at the heart of this story. Obsessed with the tales of Robin Hood, he is thrown into the 12th Century Sherwood Forest when librarian Mr Crimson (also Will Scarlet) lends him a book he finds in the archives. And the adventure begins.
A reluctant Robin Hood (Kerry Lovell) agrees to try and re-group her Merry Crew against the pompous self-obsessed Sheriff (James Newton). With JJ as a willing volunteer they make plans to romp through the forest and over-throw the Sheriff at this birthday party and of course steal the taxes he has stashed in the castle basement.
All the appeal of a ‘pantomime’ but a great alternative for families this Christmas.
