One of Pinter's more enigmatic plays I do not claim to be able to explain it - but that doesn't mean it didn't speak to me, or affect me, it did both. I had read the play before going and felt a little awed but this is an incredibly accesible production; funny, moving and beautifully paced.
I confess this brought a tear to my eye and me to my feet - it was just such a beautiful piece of theatre; script, acting, design, direction, the whole package. Ian McKellen (Spooner), Patrick Stewart (Hirst), Owen Teale (Briggs), and Damien Molony (Foster) work well together and this is definitely not just the Patrick and Ian Show, though their central roles are a delight. The characters were portrayed utterly credibly and you got a real feeling of relaxed security on stage and there were some moments of real humour.
A truly memorable evening of real theatre - I absolutely loved it
