Now that is what I call a tribute!
Too many of the tribute shows I have seen over recent years mess with the music or try to overlay the entire story of the band on top, with generally limited success. I am usually frustrated that the songs are not played in full and are given a new twist by the show.
I needn't have worried. "Let It Be" does its damndest to cover a decade of The Beatles' music as completely and accurately as possible. With just enough voice over history to cover the costume and set changes we are treated to full and accurate renditions of the music that means so much to a generation. What's more, we are encouraged to sing along (try stopping us!) and to photograph, video and share the show (no flash).
The musicianship of the performers (the fab four themselves and the extra keyboard player who does everything else!) is unquestionable and makes for an electric evening. Visually it is stunning too as we are taken through the years of the Cavern Club, Sgt Pepper and Abbey Road.
What a great evening of entertainment - now where's that Beatles playlist .....
