Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Pleasance Cavern
MahWaff Theatre have another excellent production. This play deals with the photos which emerged from Abu Ghraib in two contrasting and alternating monologues. The piece is cleverly crafted giving us many hilarious lines while making us think about news and reality. The two actors both give outstanding performances, playing the audience to get the best from every line. MyAnna Buring is brilliant in persuading us that abuse by prison guards was just natural joking and manages to evoke great sympathy in her defiant stance. Hywel John works his monologues with great effect and impeccable timing as his story is revealed. The staging and direction are appropriately simple, letting the words do the work. Not to be missed!
