Edinburgh Festival 2009. Malaje – The Flamenco Circus

A wonderfully irreverent show that fuses the joy of circus with the passion of flamenco and holds your attention with skill and aplomb. The performances are universally brilliant and it is a delight to see this talented Spanish company Albadulake celebrate their uniqueness, each bringing something special to the mix. From flamenco lost romance to the courtship of juggling to the battle of the beaten chair drums each sequence brings its own climax that raises your expectations and then delivers. The only downside to this exciting piece is the teaser of a plot that is never fully realised but this is far outweighed by the skill, tension and humour behind each moment. A must see.
