Edinburgh Festival 2009: Ernest and the Pale Moon

This eerie and gothic tale is rendered with pronounced atmosphere and theatricality, whereby Ernest, a Norman Bates-esc figure, is caught eye-stalking an object of desire in opposing flats in reverse Rear Window style.

The company use instruments, vocal sounds, transformative action, and direct address story telling to convey the strange and mysterious plot and the subjective workings of Ernest’s increasingly unhinging mind.

The decision to play the prose storytelling always at the emotional temperature of the scene makes it an exhausting experience that could be given a little more room to breathe with softer tones.
