All the planets and many stars are named after Greek gods. We speak the language of the Greek myths without even knowing it; martial arts, Achilles tendons, Olympic games - even the Argos catalogue. Moreover the Greek civilisation had an enormous influence on all our arts, especially literature and drama, and on a great deal of our thinking. Poets have kept on returning to this body of myths and finding inspiration there. Why? This evening will explore the question by presenting a performed reading of Achilles by Liz Cook, read by Greg Hicks which will be followed by a discussion with Jenny Joseph, the poet, Liz and Greg and chaired by Sara Maitland.
