Following on from their award-winning Hipopera Inferno (Best Narrative Short, Chicago International Hip Hop Film Festival 2009), the acclaimed Urban Collective youth music project returns to the capital with a new cast of breakthrough artists and a new adaptation of Dante’s Purgatory for a spectacular stage performance. The project, now in it’s sixth year, selected 30 aspiring artists and producers from open auditions and empowered them to write, record and promote Purgatory under expert guidance. Giving this urban youth project its distinctive and aspirational edge, Urban Collective challenges young people to tackle a classic text, tapping into their creativity and imaginations to question how the epic story resonates today. The end result is a performance in which every word, every lyric, every idea has been freshly conceived by the Collective for this new version of Purgatory.
