Carol Ann Duffy is one of the UK's most respected and admired writers. Her poetry fuses fierce emotion and sly humour and frequently provides a voice to the voiceless. Her work has included several plays and writing for children, and her incisive poems have featured on the GCSE poetry syllabus for many years. Her poetry books include Standing Female Nude, Selling Manhattan, The World's Wife, Rapture and The Bees. She became the first female poet laureate in 2009. She appeared at the second York Literature Festival in 2008 and we are delighted to welcome her back. LiTTLe MACHiNe - LiTTLe MACHiNe re-invent classic poems with music to get your pulse racing. They take classic poems by John Donne, Percy Shelley and William Carlos Williams and re-invent for them the 21st century. The band are comprised of Walter Wray, Steve Halliwell and Chris Hardy. Walter and Steve have played in various bands including 90s stadium rock poseurs King Swamp. Chris Hardy is a prize-winning poet and experienced folk-blues guitarist and song-writer. He has performed in every sort of venue from the Peel Show to a pub near you.
