An evening of hymns, hollyhocks and hilarity. Marianne is the perfect rector's wife, her peach complexion poised above her profiteroles at the choux pastry competition. The Reverend James Quigley is a lucky man to have this woman stoke his Aga. And yet a passion is stirring in Marianne, for Giles Netherpacker, a heavily sideburned artist has moved into the parish complete with comfy corduroys. Will their love be discovered? Will Mrs Armitage, local busybody and expert cress arranger expose the affair? Will the Rector's sudden and unexpected promotion to Archbishop of Canterbury stifle their tryst?
