Wojtek the Bear archiveThe extraordinary story of Wojtek, the Polish soldier bear, who fought at Monte Cassino and died in Edinburgh Zoo. A man mothers a bear. An emotive journey, from the Soviet Gulag and Persia to the Middle East, Italy and Scotland. A story of love and loyalty, heroism and hope. With Wojtek and his "mother", Polish soldier Piotr, a Gulag survivor, we travel through war and peace. The journey takes us from a war-torn Poland, through the Soviet slave camps and the Middle East, into the battle of Monte Cassino and, finally, to post-war Scotland.
