Amy is having a hard time. Her parents are unhappy and she is constantly picked on by the local bully. Her main friends are Maggie, who lives in an old railway carriage, and Rogue, an abandoned fox cub. That is until a mysterious young man called Tom shows up. Eighty-five years ago, Amy's great grandfather, Lieutenant Thomas Highgate, was shot for deserting his men during one of the bloodiest battles of WW1. As their stories unfold and events hurtle towards their gripping conclusion, the repercussions are felt all over the village. Even in the post office.
