Kurt Weill, son of a German cantor, and Lotte Lenya, the performer, slum child from Vienna, meet, marry, divorce and marry again against the background of the rise of Hitler, the collaboration with Brecht, the flight from Germany in 1933, and the reinvention of Weill's music in America in the 1940's.
