Two specially commissioned plays for young people - Ways2me by Nicholas Kelly to celebrate TEAM's 25th anniversary. The specially commissioned plays include
Shapeshifters and
A Quiet Life which take contrasting looks at the ways in which we come to terms with who we are and how this can often contradict and conflict with our need to belong. The first piece, commissioned by TEAM is
Shapeshifters which looks at what it means to be an artist, how this affects us personally and how much as a society we value art. Through the story of Goretti, a young performance artist, we see her search for her own identity and witness the tensions this creates in her personal life and the world around her.
A Quiet Life commissioned by National Theatre's Outreach and Education programme looks at self expression from a very different perspective. Gary is young, a bit wild. He knows how the world is, at least he thinks he does. Then a trip to the cinema and a ride in a stolen car brings him to a place he never knew existed, somewhere that he can be himself - a place of sanctuary. Only sometimes your life won't let you be who you want to be, no matter how quiet you are.
A Quiet Life runs at the Peacock Theatre from Tues 7 until Sat 18 Nov, two performances daily.
