Vote Me is a show devised in response to our ever-intensifying, pervasive culture of celebrity politics. Under constant gaze of the invasive 24hr media, politicians and celebrities are more indistinct than they ever have been, with their most personal foibles of their private lives scrutinized, judged on how they look, how they perform and undertaking ever most extreme and bizarre PR stunts as they desperately clutch onto the limelight. This is hero worship culture where people vote for people, not their ideas. The modern sense of democracy is skewed by our focus and demand for spectacle; by replicating our version of a general election, mashed up with some X Factor, various game shows and some of our odd ideas we want to see what people vote for. As a company we believe in exploiting theatre for its unique qualities: liveness, communal experience, and potential implication of audience members. We believe in theatre with a political purpose, and with our work we want to address issues that seem to us both pertinent and urgent and in need of discussion here and now.
