Vigo

Vigo

Work:: Vigo (S87955281)

France in the 1930's. Jean Vigo, a young film maker is embarking on the making of his first feature Zero de Conduite. His life so far has not been easy. Born to be the son of a father whose own revolutionary activities secured him an extended stay in a children's prison, Vigo's life is haunted by his relationship with his father. Zero de Conduite is banned by the government but Vigo's artistic spirit endures and he goes on to film a love story L'Atalante. This film is butchered by the producers and recut as a musical. Vigo is destined for a life of obscurity and early death. Jean Vigo's reputation has grown over the years and he is viewed today as a great independent film maker. The play explores his life and asks the question ' of what cost is your real independence?'
