The Widowing of Mrs Holroyd

The Widowing of Mrs Holroyd

Work:: The Widowing of Mrs Holroyd (S5564)

A passionate journey through the final days of a tempestuous marriage and a vivid portrait of life in a Midlands mining village. This rarely-performed masterpiece is directed by Fiona Buffini. Miner's wife Lizzie Holroyd is just about at the end of her tether. Trapped in a loveless marriage to the boozing, violent Charles, fearful for her children, worn out with work and worry, part of her wishes that her husband was dead. When she finds herself drawn to an attentive young electrician from the pit, it's not long before she's dreaming of a different life. But, as anger and desire, resentment and betrayal explode into violence, tragedy threatens to engulf them all.
