The Voice of Nature archiveContinuing in the vein of Tim Spooner's previous work, THE VOICE OF NATURE combines puppetry, magic and scientific-demonstration into a performed sculpture. Inspired by a painting of St. Thomas Aquinas, in which a dove is whispering in his ear and supposedly revealing the knowledge of the universe, the stage becomes an arena for playing with the unpredictable quality of materials and objects. The Voice of Nature continues in the vein of Tim's previous performed sculptures in which a mesmerising fragility and tension develop. The operator remains on the periphery of the stage as he manipulates the materials, objects and forces. He pushes their physical qualities to their breaking point as structures vibrate and collide, viscous fluids fall slowly and language is broken up.
