I came to Ystradgynlais for two weeks and stayed for eleven years... Josef Herman. The true story of Josef Herman, the Polish born artist who became famous for his bold and distinctive paintings of the British working class and probably best remembered for his paintings of Welsh miners - a particular focus for Herman during the eleven years that he lived in Ystradgynlais from the mid-1940s. Visually exciting and set to a contemporary urban folk influenced score by Swansea folk musician and composer Andy Jones, this humorous and tender story looks at how the warmth and passion of this small mining community helped shape and define Josef's work and reputation as an artist for the rest of his life.
