The Road to the Sea archiveAs the twentieth century began, people looked forward to a world from which want and conflict would be eliminated. As we enter the twenty-first century, Jay, nearing seventy, walks obsessively up and down the same piece of carpet in his Willesden flat, addressing his thoughts to an empty room. When Jo arrives, uninvited, she demands to know what sort of man he is, which leads her on an increasingly dangerous journey into both personal and public histories. Don Taylor's new play is part mordant comedy, part modern love story, most of all a young woman's quest. Some things become clearer on The Road to the Sea.
