The Play O the Wather
Work:: The Play O the Wather (S447382722)
Fed up with hearing complaints about Scotland's unpredictable weather, the great god Jupiter appoints the mischievous Merry Courant to gather opinion on what should be done to resolve the situation. Bring on a diverse cross-section of the populace, each determined to have their say and some more than prepared to bribe the Big Man to get the conditions that will suit them best. Featuring live music and gloriously chewy Scots dialogue, the bawdy, energetic appeal of this production proves that some things never change - the weather will always be a talking point. A mediaeval morality play originally written in the early 1500s,
The Play O the Wather is one of the oldest surviving plays in the English language. It was updated to broad Scots in this translation from the pen of established Scottish-based writer Edwin Stiven and enjoyed a successful premiere at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2002.
