The Pimp

The Pimp

Work:: The Pimp (S01427952265)

After poet and dandy Charles Baudelaire encounters Creole actress Jeanna in Paris, 1842, his mother Caroline launches a furious, decades-long campaign with the family lawyer to expel her from his life with unforeseen consequences for them all. A tale of prejudice and rebellion, The Pimp shines a light on a society in transition at the dawn of the Modern era. In this time of intolerance and cultural change, the love story of Baudelaire and Jeanne unfurls to reflect the challenges of their epoch, many of which still ring true today. Contains nudity and scenes of a sexual nature.

UK Theatre Web: 21Apr06: Star RatingStar RatingStar RatingStar Rating
I thought that this was a fantastic production, which was extremely well written & directed and suberbly acted. As I work in the music industry, I paid special attention to the soundtrack, and had the pleasure of meeting the composer after the performance (Tandis Jenhudson). The score captured the mood of the play perfectly and for film/theatre music-lovers, I would recommend a quick glance at his website www.tandismusic.com. I will certainly recommend this play to my friends/family and will probably end up watching it more than once. Be warned however, a couple of scenes and some of the lines are bound to cause controversy...but that's what I love about theatre!
