Details
The Phoenix of Leodis is the remarkable history of Quarry Hill told through song, dance and drama. Beginning in the 17th century when the area was hit by the plague, it moves through the 18th and 19th centuries when Quarry Hill was a fashionable spa, an arena for bull-baiting and a place which attracted immigrants from all over Europe. During the 20th century we see the effects of two world wars, the building and demolition of the Quarry Hill Flats and, in the 21st century, the development of the present buildings occupying the site.
The Phoenix of Leodis is a community based project written by members of Heydays, the creative arts programme for over 55s that runs each week at the Playhouse. As well as Heydays members the cast will also include students from City High School.
