The Lovers archiveTwo plays with the same name (Lovers by Brian Friel and The Lovers by Heather Macauley). Brian Friel's synopsis: Set on a hillside in Ballymore, County Tyrone on a sunny afternoon where the young couple Mag and Joe are attempting to study for their forthcoming exams. The disillusionment of their young love creates layers of tension as they discuss the marriage forced upon them due to her pregnancy. Mag and Joe reminisce, daydream, laugh, quarrel and make up. However, their future hopes and expectations are overshadowed by the tragic fate that awaits them that afternoon.
