The Lion in Love archiveThis is Shelagh Delaney's second play and the only other stage play she wrote apart from A Taste of Honey. The play is set in Salford in the early 1960's over three consecutive Saturdays against the backdrop of a busy urban market. It is named after one of Aesop's fables which warns us against falling in love and sacrificing yourself for the wrong person. Unlike Honey, this play was not originally produced by Joan Littlewood's Theatre Workshop but rather by her rivals the English Stage Company across town at the Royal Court Theatre.
