The Heap archiveThe Heap, is a large refuse dump that has essentially been taken over by a group of about 150 children. The children, who have abandoned their lives on the streets for the safety of the Heap, have established an egalitarian community that is virtually self-sustaining. The children grow and harvest their own food and operate a series of small cottage industries that produce collective income for all. The stories of the children's lives prior to The Heap will be revealed and in these stories notions of food insecurity, poverty and shame will be revealed. It could be anywhere in the world and could be today and tomorrow. How long can The Heap remain a sanctuary for them in this volatile and ever changing world?
