The Gates of Kiev archiveThe story of Maria Yudina - protestor, disruptor and dissident - who believed music could change minds and save civilisations. One of the greatest female pianists of the 20th century and graduate of the world-famous St Petersburg Conservatoire. She was fiercely defiant of the repressive regime of Josef Stalin, publicly denouncing him and daring Stalin to execute her - declaring herself a 'Holy Fool'. The legend is, Stalin and Yudina met... A play/piano-concert about the power of music to change hearts and minds and the fight for the soul of Russia and for peace in the former Soviet empire, using Yudina's own repertoire, and ending with her famous furious rendition of Mussorgsky's The Gates of Kiev.
