The Double Bass

T48887377
Monologue about a double-bass player. Patrick Suskind (best known for his novel Perfume) has always demonstrated his willingness to peer into the shadowy cracks of the human psyche. This rarely performed monologue is yet another example of his insight into characters that lurk on the margins of life and sanity. Focussing on an artistically frustrated double bass player, the piece takes a darkly funny look at questions of love and obsession, of ambition and mediocrity. Ultimately, however, it is a fundamentally poignant scrutiny of the unspoken yearnings that haunt us all.
