The Cut archiveHard nosed ex-union man Salter, released after serving a seven year sentence for a murder he claims he didn't commit, returns to the pit where he used to work on a mission to get even and to discover the truth about his father's death while he's been inside. What he returns to discover instead, is a world in which unions don't count anymore, where each man is out for himself and which finally ends in a violent and tragic power struggle, symbolising the end of an era. First performed in 1993, The Cut is a gritty, powerful and deeply moving play which draws on real life events as well as writer Mike Cullen's experiences as a worker in the Bilston Glen Colliery.
