A Cream Cracker Under The Settee tells of an old woman who has a fall, but her pride doesn't allow her to accept help. Bed Among the Lentils tells of a woman with a drink problem, married to a vicar who exploits her recovery actually caused by an affair with an Indian shopkeeper. A Lady of Letters is the story of a woman obsessed with writing letters of complaint and reporting her neighbours who eventually finds comfort in prison. Soldiering On is the tale of a well-to-do woman who finds one day that she's a widow and her husband has left her ill equipped to handle her own affairs - and her son loses her money in bad investments.

Website. In A Lady of Letters, Miss Ruddock writes letters not, unfortunately, social communications filled with harmless news - but letters of complaint, comment and, occasionally, officious praise to various businesses and government departments. In Her Big Chance, Lesley, an actress, has just completed a video in which she plays Travis, a career girl who enjoys life, spends a remarkable amount of time topless and shoots a man with a harpoon gun. She tells all, blind to the sinister undertones of her story as well as to her own self delusions and gullibility. A Cream Cracker Under the Settee features Doris, a widow who lives alone. Refusing to relinquish her independence she cleans a high picture rail when her home help is absent. The day goes on; unable to get help, Doris reminisces about her quiet, uneventful life with its joys and sadnesses. Duston Community Centre, Pendle Road, Northampton
