Inspired by in-depth interviews with new and established refugee communities in the Midlands, Strangers in Paradise Circus is a hard-hitting production that reveals the truth behind why people come to seek asylum in the UK. We meet Nellie from Zimbabwe, Innocent from Congo, Sherzad from Kurdistan and a host of others, all with stories to tell about how civil war, invasion, and modern day slavery have forced them to seek sanctuary in the UK, even though this meant abandoning friends and families, homes and jobs. The show combines moving human stories with a rich tapestry of musical styles in a unique blend of African and Middle Eastern storytelling, Congolese guitar, Iranian fiddle-playing, Irish rhythms and Kurdish drumming.
In Strangers in Paradise Circus, Britain's leading community theatre company offers a thought-provoking and exciting evening of live entertainment that raises key questions about diversity and social cohesion in contemporary Britain.
