Out of the blue Robert's ambitious actress wife announces she wants a divorce. Without the required grounds she doesn't have a chance, so she hires a private detective. When Robert discovers the plot he uses his experience as a stage manager to work out a bizarre way of teaching the conspirators a lesson. The play's final moments reveal several grim twists as his little game becomes stark reality.
