Siwan (Princess Joan) archivePrincess Joan (Siwan in Welsh), daughter of King Joan, grand-daughter of Eleanor of Aquitaine, was married in 1205 to Llywelyn the Great, ruler of North Wales - 'Prince of Aberfraw and Lord of Gwynedd'. In 1216 King John died, and Henry III came to the throne, Princes Siwan died at Aberconwy in 1237. The events in the play are based closely on historical fact.
