An elaborate underworld of drugs and violence alarms respectable citizens. In Baker Street, Sherlock Holmes spends his days bored and frustrated. Dr Watson has moved away to enjoy suburban married bliss. The famous violin lies untouched amid the memorabilia of an illustrious career. But when a young woman arrives on his doorstep, all this is about to change. Alice Irving is in fear of her life. She is being pursued by a supernatural enemy and cannot approach the police. Sherlock Holmes is her only chance. And so begins a tale of intrigue and deception, ending with a terrifying final scene on the stage of the Athenaeum Theatre.
