At 20 we worry about what others think of us. At 40 we don't care about what others think of us. At 60 we discover they haven't been thinking about us at all... but at 80 we are not expected to be here. Ellen and Mary are two elderly ladies living at Maple Leaf Residential Home. Ellen, who's secret for staying young, is "to live honestly, eat slowly, and lie about your age!". Mary has decided that for her, old age is just the outpatients department of purgatory. Secret Door is a funny, sincere and sometimes sad play. Secret Door looks at the friendship between two very different women and their experiences of getting old, dementia and the circle of life in the 21st century.
