ScripTease - Celebrating Chekov: The Bear/Afterplay
Work:: ScripTease (S4867)
Rehearsed readings.
Production:: Celebrating Chekov: The Bear/Afterplay (T023259205)
Described by Chekov himself as "a trivial little vaudeville in the French Manner" The Bear is a hilarious one act play featuring an aging manservant, a beautiful young widow and a handsome farmer who challenges her to a duel! Adapted by Brian Friel, The Financial Times has described this comic gem as ‘superbly funny and vivid.’ In contrast the bitter sweet Afterplay (written by Friel) pays homage to Chekov’s most famous works The Three Sisters and Uncle Vanya by intertwining the lives of two characters from these plays. Set in a run down Moscow café in the 1920s the piece examines the dual power and danger of the imagination when real life is difficult to bear.
