Roast Beef archiveIn the bloody aftermath of the Trojan War Clytemnestra awaits the return of her husband Agamemnon, whom she cannot forgive for sacrificing their daughter Iphigenia to the Gods before he headed off to battle. As she prepares to serve a dish of cold revenge alongside his favourite roast beef, she contemplates the violence of love and the love of violence. As they struggle to escape their bloodsoaked destinies they get caught up in the maelstrom of sexual passion and incestuous jealousy that passes for domestic life in this most dysfunctional of families. Transposed to the present day, Leah Vitali's award-winning play is a darkly comic perversion of the ancient Greek myth by one of modern Greece's most acclaimed playwrights. Awarded the Greek State Award for Best New Play, Roast Beef turns the conventional characters and stories surreally on their heads.
