Restoration archiveFunny, sad, fast-moving, Restoration brings to life the decadent court of Charles II in this glorious new adaptation of Rose Tremain's award-winning historical novel, which won the Sunday Express Book of the Year award in 1989, and was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. Her latest novel, The Road Home, won the 2008 Orange Broadband Prize. Sir Robert Merivel abandons his medical studies and unexpectedly finds favour at the court of Charles II, where the King makes him a 'paper groom' to the youngest of the royal mistresses. But by falling in love with her, Merivel breaks the rule that will cast him out of court, and he finds himself banished to work in a Quaker Bedlam. Merivel must endure an even more painful fall from grace before he can achieve spiritual and social restoration.
