Rehearsing Brief Encounter is set in modern day Oxfordshire where rehearsals for the stage version of the movie are being held. Two actors, Sadie, a 'resting' soap star and Guy, a young cutting edged director/performer who has just made his first film, are to take the Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard roles. As they begin work on the script they become closer both professionally and emotionally. Their offstage romance alerts the press, who descend to attend a local village hall preview. The problem is, both are in other relationships and the whiff of scandal could be more than they can bear.
