Progress in Flying Machines - Scratch archiveIn 1053, Oliver of Malmesbury - the flying monk - climbed to the top of the tower, glued feathers to his arms, and propelled himself into the air. Moments later, lying broken on the ground, he attributed the accident to his failure to attach a tail to his feet. Progress in Flying Machines floats from tales of amateur birdmen armed only with hydrogen sleeves to the wearisome reality of jet-lag and approach paths. Launching from that strange new realm between departure lounges and time zones, the play voyages through the world of aerial ships and ornithopters on a fantastic trip to the heart of a dream.
