With his national service behind him, Henry Pratt is eager to make a name for himself as an ace reporter at the Thurmash Evening Argus. But after a few weeks writing stories about stolen colanders and clumsy chiropodists, as well as falling foul of typesetters and attractive women, Henry starts to feel like his world is rather small. He soon changes his mind however, when the scoop of a lifetime lands in his lap. Of course, nothing in Henry's life is ever easy and breaking the story threatens to upset his family and make his already complicated love life even more difficult.
