Poor Kit Smart! archiveGin, prostitution and The Age of Reason: 18th Century London was the wealthiest and most rapidly expanding city in the world - and its madhouses were bursting at the seams. There was little place for the imagination - and if you prayed naked in Saint James's Park, then even the city's most loved poet was not safe from the asylum. Yet, amongst the blood, chains and whips, Christopher Smart produced a masterpiece. This exciting new play explores the conflicts between scientific pragmatism and creative imagination.
