Four prison inmates await the arrival of an art teacher from the local college, but when she doesn't appear, they try to teach themselves how to paint. Their "journey of creation" takes them on a collision course with the prison authorities, and with each other. When a public visit becomes a public relations disaster, their newly discovered creative freedoms are brought to an abrupt end.
